Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a sheet cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla.
  5. Alternate adding the flour mixture and milk to the creamed mixture, starting and ending with flour.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Let it cool completely before frosting.
  9. For the frosting, combine cocoa powder, butter, and cream, then beat until smooth. Spread over the cooled cake.

Notes

  • This cake can be made a day in advance for better flavor.
  • Feel free to add nuts or sprinkles on top for extra texture.
