- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter, softened
- 2 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 5 large eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a sheet cake pan.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla.
- Alternate adding the flour mixture and milk to the creamed mixture, starting and ending with flour.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let it cool completely before frosting.
- For the frosting, combine cocoa powder, butter, and cream, then beat until smooth. Spread over the cooled cake.
Notes
- This cake can be made a day in advance for better flavor.
- Feel free to add nuts or sprinkles on top for extra texture.
