Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup dried figs, chopped and stems discarded
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
Instructions
- Start by placing the chopped figs in a saucepan and adding the water. Heat over medium flame until the mixture begins to bubble gently, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 5 minutes until the figs soften.
- Once softened, take the saucepan off the heat and allow it to cool for a few minutes.
- Carefully transfer the fig mixture to a blender or food processor. Incorporate the honey, vanilla extract, sea salt, and lemon juice. Blend until you achieve a silky, smooth consistency.
- Sample the spread and if you desire a sweeter taste, feel free to mix in additional honey.
- Spoon the finished spread into a sterilized jar, allowing it to cool fully before sealing. Keep it refrigerated, where it will stay fresh for up to two weeks.
Notes
- For an extra layer of flavor, consider adding a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg before blending.
- This delightful spread is perfect when paired with cream cheese or goat cheese on crackers or toast, making for an exquisite appetizer.
