Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, butter, and powdered sugar until crumbly.
  3. Press the mixture into the bottom of a greased 9×9 inch baking dish.
  4. Bake for 15 minutes or until lightly golden.
  5. In a saucepan over medium heat, whisk together milk, granulated sugar, and vanilla until warm.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk egg yolks and cornstarch until smooth.
  7. Slowly add the warm milk mixture to the egg yolk mixture, stirring constantly.
  8. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
  9. Pour the custard over the baked crust and refrigerate until set.
  10. In a mixing bowl, whip heavy cream with sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.
  11. Spread whipped cream over the chilled custard before serving.
