- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 cup milk
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 large egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, butter, and powdered sugar until crumbly.
- Press the mixture into the bottom of a greased 9×9 inch baking dish.
- Bake for 15 minutes or until lightly golden.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, whisk together milk, granulated sugar, and vanilla until warm.
- In a separate bowl, whisk egg yolks and cornstarch until smooth.
- Slowly add the warm milk mixture to the egg yolk mixture, stirring constantly.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
- Pour the custard over the baked crust and refrigerate until set.
- In a mixing bowl, whip heavy cream with sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.
- Spread whipped cream over the chilled custard before serving.
Notes
- Chill the dessert for at least 4 hours before serving for best results.
- Can be topped with fresh berries or chocolate shavings.
