A delicious and savory meat pie traditional to Quebec, perfect for winter gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large pie crusts
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground pork and beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add onions and garlic, and cook until softened.
  4. Stir in thyme, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, salt, and pepper. Cook for a few more minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  6. Roll out one pie crust and place it in a pie dish.
  7. Scoop the meat mixture into the crust.
  8. Cover with the second pie crust, sealing the edges and making a few slits on top to let steam escape.
  9. Brush the top with beaten egg.
  10. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
  11. Let cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
