Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups diced apples (about 2 medium apples)
- 1 cup cooked and crumbled bacon (about 8 slices)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup whiskey (such as bourbon)
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add the diced apples, crumbled bacon, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, whiskey, Dijon mustard, cinnamon, black pepper, and salt to the skillet.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cook uncovered for about 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are soft and the mixture has thickened to a jam-like consistency.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Transfer the jam to a jar or airtight container and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a few dashes of hot sauce during cooking.
- Substitute the apples with pears for a different flavor profile, or mix both for a delightful twist.
