Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan with butter.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and blend in the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger until well mixed.
- Remove from heat and pour the mixture into the bottom of the prepared cake pan.
- Layer the sliced pears atop the brown sugar mixture evenly.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt, whisking until well incorporated.
- In a separate bowl, cream together the granulated sugar and egg until light and airy.
- Stir in the buttermilk and vanilla extract until fully combined.
- Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, being careful not to overmix.
- Pour the batter over the arranged pears, smoothing it out to cover them completely.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before flipping it onto a serving plate.
- Allow it to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
