A delicious recipe for Savory Brioche featuring Huevo de Toro tomatoes and fresh herbs, perfect for any occasion.

  • Total Time: 2 hours
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed to about 110°F
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup Huevo de Toro tomatoes, diced (or substitute with any flavorful heirloom tomatoes)
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Mix well.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the warmed milk and eggs until well combined.
  3. Gradually add the milk mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough begins to form.
  4. Add the softened butter and continue to knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Incorporate the diced Huevo de Toro tomatoes, basil, parsley, garlic powder, black pepper, and red pepper flakes into the dough, mixing gently until evenly distributed.
  6. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  8. Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently and shape it into a loaf or divide it into smaller rolls. Place them in a greased loaf pan or on a baking sheet.
  9. Cover the shaped dough and let it rise again for about 30-45 minutes.
  10. Brush the top with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
  12. Allow to cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

  • For a cheesy twist, add 1 cup of shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese to the dough before baking.
  • Experiment with different herbs like thyme or oregano for varied flavor profiles.
