Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup warm milk (around 110°F)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup pitted dates, chopped
- 1 cup walnuts, chopped
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup salted caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
Instructions
- Mix the warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a small bowl and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
- Incorporate the melted butter, egg, and activated yeast mixture into the flour, stirring until a dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- After rising, gently deflate the dough and roll it out into a rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Evenly distribute the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture over the dough.
- Scatter the chopped dates and walnuts on top, then drizzle with salted caramel sauce.
- Roll the dough tightly from one long side into a log shape and slice into 12 equal portions.
- Arrange the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover with a kitchen towel, and let rise for an additional 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Once out of the oven, sprinkle with sea salt and drizzle with extra caramel sauce if desired.
Notes
- Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to activate the yeast properly.
- For a richer flavor, use homemade salted caramel sauce.
- These rolls can be served warm or at room temperature.
