Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup semolina
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup orange blossom water
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup fresh orange segments (or canned)
- 1/2 cup chopped pistachios (for topping)
- Fresh mint leaves (for decoration)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a saucepan, warm the milk over medium heat, then gradually whisk in the semolina, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Cook for about 5 minutes until the mixture thickens, then set aside to cool slightly.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, melted butter, eggs, baking powder, salt, and orange blossom water until smooth.
- Carefully incorporate the cooled semolina mixture into the egg mixture until fully blended.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the surface.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- While the cake cools, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
- Once the cake has cooled, cut it into cubes.
- In a large trifle dish or individual glasses, alternate layers of cake cubes, orange segments, and whipped cream.
- Repeat the layering process until the dish is filled, ending with a generous layer of whipped cream.
- Top with chopped pistachios and fresh mint leaves for garnish.
- Chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving to enhance the flavors.
Notes
- Ensure the semolina is well incorporated to avoid lumps in the cake.
- Chilling the trifle enhances the flavors and allows the layers to set.
