A delicious recipe for Meatball Subs that combines savory meatballs with marinara sauce and melted cheese, perfect for a hearty meal.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 jar (24 ounces) marinara sauce
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, garlic, salt, black pepper, oregano, and basil. Mix until well combined.
  3. Form the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through and browned.
  5. While the meatballs are baking, heat the marinara sauce in a saucepan over medium heat. Once the meatballs are done, add them to the sauce and let simmer for 5 minutes.
  6. Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise, but not all the way through.
  7. Place a few meatballs in each roll, spooning some of the marinara sauce over them.
  8. Top each sub with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  9. Place the assembled subs on a baking sheet and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add red pepper flakes to the meatball mixture or the marinara sauce.
  • Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option, and use whole wheat hoagie rolls for added fiber.
