A classic Italian dish that layers pasta, meat, and cheese.

Ingredients

  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  3. In a skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat; drain any fat.
  4. In a bowl, mix together ricotta cheese, egg, basil, salt, and pepper.
  5. Spread a layer of marinara sauce in the bottom of a baking dish.
  6. Layer 4 lasagna noodles, half of the ricotta mixture, half of the ground beef, and a third of the mozzarella cheese.
  7. Repeat the layers, ending with a final layer of marinara sauce and remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
  9. Let it cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, substitute the ground beef with vegetables.
  • Can be made ahead and refrigerated before baking.
