A delightful Japanese Black Sesame Halloween Cheesecake that combines rich flavors with a spooky twist, perfect for Halloween celebrations.

  • Total Time: 4 hours 20 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups crushed graham crackers
  • ½ cup melted unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cup softened cream cheese
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ cup black sesame paste
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 tablespoon black sesame seeds (for decoration)
  • Optional: Food coloring for a spooky look

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F.
  2. In a mixing bowl, blend the crushed graham crackers with the melted butter and sugar until the mixture resembles wet sand.
  3. Firmly press this mixture into the base of a 9-inch springform pan to create a sturdy crust.
  4. Bake for 10 minutes, then take it out and let it cool completely.
  5. In another bowl, whip the cream cheese until it’s creamy and smooth.
  6. Gradually incorporate the sour cream and sugar, mixing until everything is well blended.
  7. Add the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully mixed in before adding the next.
  8. Gently fold in the black sesame paste, vanilla, and flour until the batter is uniform.
  9. If desired, mix in a few drops of food coloring for a Halloween vibe.
  10. Pour the cheesecake mixture over the cooled crust in the springform pan.
  11. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center still has a slight wobble.
  12. Once done, turn off the oven and let the cheesecake sit inside for an hour to cool slowly.
  13. After an hour, take the cheesecake out and allow it to cool completely at room temperature.
  14. For the best texture, chill it in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  15. Just before serving, sprinkle the top with black sesame seeds for an elegant finish.

Notes

  • For an extra layer of flavor, consider adding a tablespoon of matcha powder to the batter.
  • Use cookie cutters to create fun shapes from the cheesecake once set, and arrange them on top as a playful decoration.
