- 1 pre-made tart shell
- 4 large oranges
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
- 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
- 1 tablespoon butter
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a saucepan, combine the sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Gradually add the orange juice and stir until smooth.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in the butter and zest.
- In a bowl, beat the eggs. Gradually add a small amount of the hot mixture to the eggs, stirring constantly.
- Pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan and cook for another minute, stirring.
- Pour the filling into the pre-baked tart shell.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until set.
- Cool before serving with whipped cream, if desired.
Notes
- For a brighter flavor, you can add more orange zest.
- Cool the tart completely before refrigerating.
