Ingredients

  • 1 pre-made tart shell
  • 4 large oranges
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a saucepan, combine the sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Gradually add the orange juice and stir until smooth.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the butter and zest.
  5. In a bowl, beat the eggs. Gradually add a small amount of the hot mixture to the eggs, stirring constantly.
  6. Pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan and cook for another minute, stirring.
  7. Pour the filling into the pre-baked tart shell.
  8. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until set.
  9. Cool before serving with whipped cream, if desired.

Notes

  • For a brighter flavor, you can add more orange zest.
  • Cool the tart completely before refrigerating.
