Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups whole wheat flour
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm water and honey. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Add olive oil and salt to the yeast mixture, then gradually incorporate the whole wheat flour until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough, divide it into equal pieces, and shape them into rolls.
- Place the rolls in a greased baking pan, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush with melted butter before serving.
Notes
- Ensure the water is warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast.
- For softer rolls, wrap them in a towel after baking.
- These rolls can be frozen after baking for up to 3 months.
