Ingredients

  • 3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water and honey; sprinkle yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly.
  2. Add melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture and stir.
  3. Gradually add whole wheat flour and all-purpose flour until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide into 12 pieces; shape each piece into a roll.
  7. Place rolls in a greased baking pan, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake rolls for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
