Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups grated Gruyere cheese
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel and thinly slice the potatoes.
  3. In a saucepan, combine the cream, milk, garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg; heat until simmering.
  4. In a greased baking dish, create layers of potatoes, sprinkling Gruyere cheese between each layer.
  5. Pour the hot cream mixture over the layered potatoes.
  6. Dot the top with butter.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving.
