- 2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 cups grated Gruyere cheese
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Peel and thinly slice the potatoes.
- In a saucepan, combine the cream, milk, garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg; heat until simmering.
- In a greased baking dish, create layers of potatoes, sprinkling Gruyere cheese between each layer.
- Pour the hot cream mixture over the layered potatoes.
- Dot the top with butter.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Let cool slightly before serving.

- For extra flavor, add fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary.
