- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup molasses
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then mix in the molasses.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between two greased cake pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Once cooled, frost with your favorite icing.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- This cake can be made a day ahead for even better flavor.
