Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 to 4 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth.
  4. Beat in the egg, then stir in the vanilla and almond extracts.
  5. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
  6. Drop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  7. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden.
  8. Let cool on wire racks.
  9. To make the frosting, beat together confectioners’ sugar, milk, and vanilla in a bowl until smooth.
  10. Spread frosting over cooled cookies.
