A delicious and comforting dessert that combines sweet apple filling with a light sponge cake topping.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups peeled and sliced cooking apples
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a baking dish.
  3. In a bowl, combine the apples, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice, then place in the prepared dish.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar, then add the eggs and milk.
  6. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients.
  7. Spread the batter over the apple mixture.
  8. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Cool slightly before serving.
