A traditional Czech dish featuring tender beef in a creamy sauce, served with soft dumplings.

  • Total Time: 2 hours 5 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds beef chuck, cut into cubes
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 12 dumplings (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
  2. Add the beef cubes and brown on all sides.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and paprika, cooking for another minute.
  4. Pour in the beef broth and bring to a simmer. Cover and cook for about 1.5 hours, or until the beef is tender.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and heavy cream. Gradually add this mixture to the pot, stirring to combine.
  6. Cook for an additional 10-15 minutes until the sauce thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Serve the beef and sauce over dumplings.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, marinate the beef in the broth for a few hours before cooking.
  • Make sure to stir the sauce frequently to prevent sticking.
