- 1 package phyllo dough
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 3 large egg yolks
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chopped walnuts or pistachios
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a saucepan, heat milk and sugar until dissolved.
- In a bowl, whisk egg yolks, cornstarch, vanilla, and salt.
- Gradually add hot milk mixture to yolks, whisking constantly.
- Return to the stove and cook until thickened.
- Layer phyllo dough on a baking sheet, brushing each layer with melted butter.
- Spread custard mixture over the dough.
- Sprinkle chopped nuts over the custard.
- Roll the phyllo tightly and place seam-side down on the baking sheet.
- Brush the top with remaining butter.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Allow the custard to cool completely before rolling for best results.
- Serve with a drizzle of honey for added sweetness.
