  • 1 loaf of crystal bread (or any crusty white bread)
  • 1 can (4.5 oz) of pickled sardines
  • 1 medium orange, zested and segmented
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: red pepper flakes for heat

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Slice the crystal bread into 1/2-inch thick slices.
  2. Arrange the slices on a baking sheet and brush both sides lightly with olive oil. Toast in the oven for about 8-10 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
  3. While the bread is toasting, prepare the citrus topping. In a small bowl, combine the orange segments, lemon juice, honey, and chopped parsley. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Once the bread is toasted, remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly.
  5. Top each slice of toasted bread with a few pickled sardines and a generous spoonful of the citrus mixture.
