A festive and delicious dessert layered with sponge cake, custard, and fruit.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound sponge cake, cut into cubes
  • 2 cups custard
  • 2 cups mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
  • 1 cup whipped cream
  • 1/2 cup sherry (optional)
  • 1/4 cup almonds, slivered

Instructions

  1. Layer half of the sponge cake cubes in a trifle dish.
  2. If using, drizzle sherry over the cake.
  3. Spread half of the custard over the sponge cake.
  4. Add a layer of mixed berries.
  5. Add a layer of whipped cream.
  6. Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.
  7. Top with slivered almonds and garnish with extra berries.
  8. Chill the trifle for several hours before serving.

Notes

  • For a non-alcoholic version, skip the sherry.
  • Can be prepared a day in advance.
