- 500 grams all-purpose flour
- 100 grams sesame seeds, toasted
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon anise seeds
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 200 ml warm water
- 100 ml orange blossom water
- 500 grams honey
- 2 cups vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, toasted sesame seeds, cinnamon, anise seeds, salt, and sugar.
- Add warm water slowly, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth, then cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- Roll out the dough and cut it into strips.
- Shape each strip into an intricate pattern, folding and twisting as desired.
- Heat the oil in a deep pan over medium heat and fry the shaped dough until golden brown.
- Once fried, soak the Chebakia in warm honey mixed with orange blossom water for a few minutes.
- Allow to cool and serve.
Notes
- Chebakia is often served during Ramadan as a dessert.
- To enhance flavor, experiment with additional spices like nutmeg or cloves.
