These Brown Butter Snickerdoodles are a delightful twist on the classic cookie, featuring the nutty flavor of brown butter and a perfect cinnamon-sugar coating.

  • Total Time: 32 minutes
  • Yield: 24 cookies 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, browned
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons sugar (for rolling)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium saucepan, brown the butter over medium heat until it is golden brown and has a nutty smell. Remove from heat and cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and browned butter until smooth.
  4. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  7. In a small bowl, mix together the sugar and cinnamon for rolling.
  8. Roll the dough into balls, then roll each ball in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  9. Place the coated balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  10. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers are set.
  11. Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For added flavor, you can chill the dough for a couple of hours before baking.
  • Store any leftover cookies in an airtight container at room temperature.
