A decadent dessert featuring layers of chocolate cake, whipped cream, and cherries.

  • Total Time: 2 hours 30 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 chocolate cake (prepared and cut into cubes)
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 cup cherries (pitted and halved)
  • 1/2 cup chocolate shavings
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla, and continue to whip until stiff peaks form.
  2. In a trifle dish, layer half of the chocolate cake cubes, followed by half of the whipped cream, and half of the cherries.
  3. Repeat the layers with the remaining cake, whipped cream, and cherries. Top with chocolate shavings.
  4. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh cherries during the cherry season.
  • You can substitute store-bought chocolate cake for homemade.
  • Make sure to chill the trifle well for the best texture.
